The Lift the Lid Walk will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, to raise awareness of mental health issues in the local community.
“The Lift the Lid Walk aims to bring members of the local community together in a walk-and-talk format,” Yarrawonga Mulwala Rotary President Ron Kennett said.
“It is an opportunity to get locals and community organisations together to raise the awareness of the mental health issues we face in all areas of our community, schools, homes and workplaces.”
The walk will begin at 10.00am (registration from 9.00am) from the splash park on the Yarrawonga foreshore and extend along the walking path on River Rd, through Chinaman’s Island to the Rowing Club car park and return, a distance of approximately 4 km.
Participants can register for the walk online at www.liftthelidwalk.com.au or on the day at the splash park assembly area. Online registrations will receive a T-shirt, while caps will be available for walk-up entries during the day.
The Rotary Club of Yarrawonga Mulwala will provide lunch as part of the registration cost. All registration funds will go to vital research via the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund.
The focus of these programs in 2024/25 is on the mental health of young Australians aged 0 - 12 years.
Local ‘wellness’ organisations will be invited to take up a marquee site to provide information about mental health, activities and volunteering opportunities available within the local community. Funds will be provided from donations received to support local Mental Health initiatives.
Any organisation that wishes to be involved is encouraged to contact the Rotary Club for further information. (rotary.yarrawonga.mulwala@gmail.com)
Several sporting groups and businesses have already indicated a willingness to support the event by having groups of walkers decked out in their club jumpers/ uniforms. District Rotary clubs will also support the event, and local schools will be encouraged to participate by offering free entry to students.
Community members are especially urged to keep the date free and get on board by participating in the event. The Rotary Club aims to raise mental health awareness locally because, as the statistics tell us, we all know someone suffering.
“ClubMulwala has a long history of supporting community organisations and events throughout the Yarrawonga Mulwala district, and the Rotary Club would like to extend a special thanks for their sponsorship support,” Ron said.
Other sponsors to have come on board include Central Murray Credit Union as a silver sponsor and Demaria Mitsubishi as a bronze sponsor.
