Last Sunday I travelled to Melbourne via our public transport system.
I departed at 8am via a coach, and transferred to the train at Seymour, arriving at Southern Cross at 11am.
On returning I departed the city at 4.30pm and transferred to a coach at Seymour, arriving back in Shepparton at 7.30pm.
A total of six hours is an excessive amount of time out of the day, but aside from the time issue, the coach was extremely cold. Not just cold temperature, but cool air was blowing during the entire trip — both directions.
The biggest concern, however, was the return train. There were only two carriages to accommodate an exorbitant amount of weekend travellers. We were squashed in like sardines and people were standing two abreast in the aisles.
This is so unsafe, and would be a testing experience for anybody who was feeling a bit fragile or who was physically compromised in any manner.
Interestingly enough, on the previous Wednesday my daughter travelled here on the 4pm train from the city, arriving at 7pm. There were four carriages and the train was light on passengers. How does this make any sense? A football weekend, loads of people, and the worst service.
Shepparton is definitely forgotten, on so many levels.
