The Wombats were a mathematical chance of missing finals before Saturday, but did enough to join Stanhope, Murchison-Toolamba, Avenel, Nagambie and Tallygaroopna in the premiership race.
A dominant second term helped Tallygaroopna overpower the Wombats, prevailing 16.6 (102) to 10.14 (74) at Lancaster Recreation Reserve to clinch the minor premiership.
The Wombats were nine points up at the first break, but were kept goalless as the away side booted eight unanswered goals.
Teenager Jai Utiger starred with six goals for Tally, while Sean Arnold (two), Hugh Anderson and Austin Tricarico rounded out the better players.
Adam Vick and Tom Davies were influential for the Wombats.
Meanwhile, at Rushworth's Ironbark Stadium, Girgarre defied a late charge from the Tigers to record a 14.13 (97) to 10.12 (72) victory.
Outgoing playing coach Shannon Tucker was named best afield for the Kangaroos, while Cam Gahan and Ash Hughes gave plenty of support.
Once again, Rushworth's Isaiah Johnson (four goals) was a standout, while Joseph Thompson and Tully Hemsley (two) tried hard.
Elsewhere, Murchison-Toolamba capped off a stellar finish to the season with a 13.14 (92) to 5.6 (36) win against Shepparton East.
The Grasshoppers clinched their eighth straight win thanks to a five-goal haul from James Milne and four-goal effort from Aaron Wood.
For Shepparton East, Jayden Damianopoulos and Jeromy Aynsley tried their hardest, while Darbv Innes-Irons capped off a great season.
Nagambie proved too strong for Dookie United, running out 15.21 (111) to 5.2 (32) winners away from home.
Michael Shiels kicked a couple and was best afield for Nagambie, while Dan Fitzpatrick, Mark Wilson and Daniel Haysom (three) chipped in with great contributions.
Pat McMullan and Ryan McKenna were strong performers for United.
Lastly, Stanhope clinched fifth position on the ladder with a 36.13 (229) to 1.2 (8) rout of Longwood.
Drew Haebich booted nine majors to lead the way for the Lions, while he was supported by Braydon Kearns (five) and Jonathan Pearson (four).
Brandon Corish (four goals) was named best afield for Stanhope.
Longwood's season came to end with Nathan Watson, Lachlan Cox and Dylan Gordois finishing strongly.
