The event was held at the Katamatite Recreation Reserve.
A club spokesperson said a highlight of the evening was a presentation of Melvin Jones awards to members Darryl Lukies and John Sutton by past district governor Neil Stuart.
“This is the highest award in Lions, both are charter members of the club and have been tireless workers through the years,” the spokesperson said.
Over the years, the club has undertaken many community programs. One mentioned at the anniversary was the Vintage Rally at Muckatah, held for many years.
“The reserve is now the venue for our rodeo, which has also been very successful,” the spokesperson said.
“We’ve had many events including dog trials, the Big Day Out in a Little Town, the kite festival.
“And the art we have in the town includes the eagle sculpture, chainsaw art, bunyip mural storyboards and probably the prize of all, the silo art.”
At the anniversary, the club made contributions to local organisations including the Katamatite Primary School, Katamatite and Muckatah fire brigades, Cobram Regional Care, the cemetery trust and the football and cricket clubs, totalling $25,000.
“Everyone in attendance had a great night (which) finished with our entertainer, Pete Denahy,” the spokesperson said.
“Moira Shire is to be thanked for a grant, along with helpers on the night that made it all possible.”
