On Wednesday, December 7, the children presented their gifts to Cobram Community House’s community administrator Paula Hansen.
Among the gifts the kids presented were skateboards, scooters, hair straighteners, arts-crafts sets, non-perishable food and Disney toys.
Katamatite Kindergarten teacher Jacquie Monk said the kindergarten’s involvement was simply a case of putting into practice the values that it taught the children.
“The Cobram Community House reached out to local organisations. At the Kinder, we have amazing families and we have been talking to the children about generosity around Christmas time and the importance of looking out for those less fortunate,” Mrs Monk said.
As for the response by the students and families, Mrs Monk has nothing but praise.
“Overwhelming. We opened it up to the broader community and we have had people who are no longer attached to the kindergarten drop by and contribute,” Mrs Monk said.

Ms Hansen had similar sentiments and expressed delight upon receiving the gifts which required several large cardboard boxes to carry.
“It just shows what an amazing area we live in and how generous everyone is,” Ms Hansen said.
When Emma Thomas, 5, was asked why they gave gifts, she said it was about helping those less fortunate.
“To give presents to children who don’t have any,” Emma said.
Cobram Community House held its annual Cobram Community Christmas Gift Appeal and asked residents to donate an unwrapped Christmas gift so that families in need can experience some joy this festive season.
Gift dropping locations included Cobram Community House, Bendigo Bank Cobram, Cobram Cinema as well as Barooga Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
Last year the gift appeal provided gifts to about 150 children.
