Jigarre Jammin’ bi-annual camp is coming up at the end of the month in Girgarre, with people coming from far and wide to strum, sing and jig.

The camp is one of two weekends a year in Girgarre, where the monthly Jigarre Jammin’ session extends to the whole weekend.
The other Jigarre Jammin camp is held in April.
Jigarre Jammin’ organiser Irene Labbett notes that about 30-odd campers set up each camp.
“Technically, it starts on Friday, but people start rocking up earlier in the week,” she said.
“It is quite casual and they catch up with friends and jam around the park.”
On Friday night, the camp holds a ‘walk-up’ concert, with Jigarre Jammin’ sessions on Saturday and old-time gospel singing on Sunday.
There is no need to practice before coming along, or if you don’t own an instrument, the group has some you can borrow.
“People seem to really love the open mics, being able just to walk up and perform,” Mrs Labbett said.
“Together, they form little bands performing songs they learn over the weekend.
“You can come along and listen, or you can come along, sing and perform.
“If you have any sort of skills at all, if you have learned a few years of guitar, say in your youth and have not done anything since, we keep it at a level for people who are not professional musicians.
“We make it easy for people to play along.
“We put the words with the cords up on the screen, and the songs are kept in a simple, catchy format.”
