Such was the effect that her words had on both audiences in attendance.
A former world top number 4 tennis player, Jelena is a living testament to resilience, perseverance and success on the tennis court.
But it is her story of courage, determination and resilience off the court in the most distressing of circumstances through abuse, violence and trauma that Jelena’s absolute strength has emerged.
Her advocacy for speaking out against domestic violence and mental health issues has no boundaries and through her published books, her public speaking engagements and her most recent documentary, Jelena Dokic has become an influential voice and beacon of hope as she shares her story.
‘Across The Arts Yarrawonga Mulwala’ were thrilled to present Jelena Dokic to our community. President Tanya Rose, who introduced Jelena to the audiences, said the response following the two successful events from audience members was “extremely positive”.
An example of the response by local netball legend Tracy Gillies, perhaps summed up the feelings of attendees. “Jelena was inspirational,” she said. “Her ability to triumph over adversity and to speak about it is to be admired.”
ATA thanks its sponsors of this event, Club Mulwala, Moira Shire, Rich Glen, Studio Alyssum and Yarrawonga News and Gifts for their very generous support which enables us to present events of such high caliber to our community.
