The majority of the rain was delivered during the January 14 to 15 storms, or in the last week of January.
Shepparton received the most days of rain (12) but didn’t record the highest rain total. That honour belongs to Benalla, which received a monthly rain total of 148.1mm, delivered in just 10 days.
The wettest day for Benalla was January 15, which received 19mm in 24 hours according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Shepparton’s wettest day was also January 15, with an identical 19mm.
Strathbogie received the second highest rainfall with 97mm in total — 30.8mm of that falling on January 15, which was also its wettest day.
Kerang is continuing its run of receiving more rain than expected, with a January total of 72.2mm.
This puts the Mallee town above Deniliquin (42mm), Bendigo (53.4mm), Kyabram (47mm) and Tatura (68.8mm).
In a similar vein, Echuca continues to be the driest town in the Country News readership.
The river town recorded seven days with rainfall — one day more than Kerang — but it only added up to 20.4mm.
Fellow Murray River town Yarrawonga faired far better with a monthly rainfall of 75.6mm.
It terms of the heat, January 1 was the biggest scorcher.
Across all Victorian towns, the first day of January was the hottest, reaching 39.8°C in Kerang, 38.6°C in Shepparton and 34.3°C in Strathbogie.
For the NSW towns, January 2 was the hottest day as Deniliquin sweltered through a 39.4°C high and Yarrawonga recorded 37.5°C.
Corowa and Tocumwal did not have complete data for January.
