With flooding starting to subside in Shepparton and Mooroopna, residents are encouraged to be considerate about the disposal of their sandbags.
If you have wet sandbags, they cannot be used again and need to be disposed of.
Sandbags cannot be placed in the household kerbside collection bins or any collection skip bins designated for flood waste, as they will make the bins too heavy to collect.
Greater Shepparton City Council is asking residents to dispose of their sandbags at their nearest resource recovery centre.
Currently, both the Shepparton and Murchison resource recovery centres are closed due to access issues because of heavy rainfall at the Shepparton site and minor flooding at the Murchison site.
However, the Ardmona Resource Recovery Centre is open from 8am to 4:15pm every day and is accepting waste, including sandbags.
Council is working on creating a scheduled and dedicated sandbag collection service for those that can’t dispose of sandbags themselves and has advised The News that there will be more information about that next week.
