A total of 3000 jobs will be added across the country, including 900 in Victoria and 715 in southern NSW.
There are about 160 positions available in north-east Victoria, including 30 jobs in Dookie and 15 in Numurkah, and a predicted 167 jobs in central Victoria, including 10 jobs in Murchison East and 32 in Elmore.
The southern NSW vacancies include 25 in Tocumwal and 23 in Deniliquin.
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences forecast for the east coast — including Victoria, NSW and Queensland — predicts a winter crop production of up to 21.5 million tonnes, which is 18 per cent above the 10-year average.
GrainCorp corporate affairs manager Jess Simons said last year had 1000 jobs across the board, which has tripled this year.
“We provide all the training and don’t expect people to come with prior experience; there’s no real age limit, we get students, backpackers and we sometimes get people who return because they enjoyed the job,” Ms Simons said.
“We encourage the local population to apply, it’s been a difficult time recently so we're excited to get started.”
The jobs will cover a variety of roles involving weighbridge operations, grain sampling, general labouring and laboratory assistance.
GrainCorp chief executive officer Robert Spurway said he was looking forward to growing the workforce to manage the incoming crop.
“We’ll be combing regional and rural towns for new recruits and returning staff to help manage grain receivals at our sites throughout our network,” Mr Spurway said.
“We want to support the communities in which we live and work, some of which have really struggled economically through the drought over the last couple of years.”
