The Euroa Sheep Dog Club is hosting yard dog trials on behalf of the Victorian Yard Dog Association at the Euroa Annual Show on Saturday, October 22, and Sunday, October 23.
The novice event will kick off at 7.30am on the Saturday and will be followed by the Halsall Open — the main event for top-class entrants.
The open is named in honour of Graham and Nancy Halsall, who founded the Victorian Yard Dog Association.
Halsall is a name synonymous with sheep dog trials across much of the country and organisers said they hoped entrants from interstate would attend — particularly last year’s inaugural title winner Geoff McDougall from the Hay Working Dog Club.
Sunday will see two classes run — one for maiden entrants where the handlers may have experience but the dog is inexperienced in yard trial work. There will also be an encouragement class where new handlers and dogs can trial to gain confidence, learn the rules and for general yard dog trial experience.
