The community flocked to Rochester and Elmore District Health Service on Saturday, December 14 for a look inside the rebuilt facility.

More than two years after the site sustained significant flood damage, locals were welcomed into REDHS, touring the space and celebrating its reopening.

In his address, REDHS chair Chris White emphasised the importance of the hospital to the community.

“This is not just a health service,” he said.

“Its significance is more than that. It is part of the very fabric of our community.

“It’s a symbol of hope, resilience and unwavering commitment of our staff, volunteers and community to care for one another.

“We are proud to see it embraced by so many with open arms.”

Newly appointed chief executive Mary Manescu said she was looking ahead to the staged reopening of the facility, with residents to be welcomed back in early 2025.

“Our focus now is to recommence services and return our residents safely home in the new year,” she said.
