The students recently participated in the National Simultaneous Story Time, an annual event where schools, libraries and families read a book at the same time.
On Wednesday, May 22 at noon, Verney Road School joined the country and read Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker.
Classes stopped as the book was read through the loudspeaker, with students and staff taking it in turns to read the story.
Senior school learning specialist for literacy and numeracy Stephanie Durden said the students loved reading the book and had fun with all the activities held during the day.
“Our school celebrated the day by encouraging all students to come wearing blue and invited our grandparents and special people into the school to help us with our celebrations,” she said.
“We then completed a scavenger hunt within the junior and senior school, where students went with their special people and collected all the different items from the story to make their own colourful bird nest.”
Verney Road School participates in National Simultaneous Story Time every year, and encourages all students to participate through many activities.
The News photographer Rechelle Zammit headed down to the school on the day to capture all the fun.
Bella Briggs, 9, and staff member Amy Purchase were dressed in blue.
