Future of Benalla’s community groups to be discussed at roundtable

State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland is keen to help community groups and not-for-profits in Benalla find a dedicated space.

A roundtable discussion between Benalla’s community groups and not-for-profit organisations will take place this month, with a focus on finding a dedicated space for residents to access crucial community services.

The roundtable, organised by state Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland, had become necessary following the closure of the Benalla Community Services Hub, a crucial central location for 12 health and community agencies operating across north-east Victoria.

The hub had been home to several health and homelessness services, as well as organisations such as the Orange Door and the Centre Against Violence that provided a safe haven for victims of family violence to meet with support workers.

“The closure of the Community Services Hub has left a significant gap in our town, affecting access to vital services such as health, housing, education, cultural support and more,” Ms Cleeland said.

“This meeting will be an opportunity for us to come together as a community to discuss how we can address this situation and explore solutions that support our local groups and ensures services remain accessible — especially for our most vulnerable residents.

“I look forward to hearing insights from local organisations on how we can build a stronger, more connected community space in Benalla despite the closure of the hub.

“Budget constraints and a lack of funding support from this government should not prevent Benalla residents from being able to access the lifesaving services that these groups provide.”

Representatives from across Benalla, including councillors, have been invited to participate in the meeting on Monday, February 24 at the town’s CWA Hall on Bridge St East.
