Benalla Rural City’s public libraries will receive $161,012 as part of the Public Libraries Funding Program.
The money will be used to expand library collections, boost online services and provide library and outreach programs.
Local libraries are much-loved community facilities in Victoria and provide a valuable resource for students, parents, book worms and a huge cross section of the community.
Across the state, more than two million library members borrow more than 31 million items every year.
Violet Town Library is receiving a share of $895,330, which is being invested into the Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation.
That also includes libraries in Euroa, Nagambie and Numurkah.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the government was proud to support councils and regional libraries that provided quality resources for the community.
“As our community grows, so do their needs,” Ms Symes said.
“This funding will provide northern Victorians (with) improved access to digital technology and resources, literacy support services, traditional collections, event spaces and workstations.”
