In its 37th year, the Victorian Seniors Festival celebrates the contributions of more than one million Victorians aged 60 and over this month, with a week of free transport for those with a Seniors Card.
All public transport, including regional town bus services, are included in the free travel from October 6 to 13 and all seniors needed to do is touch on with a seniors Myki Card.
“We’re excited to provide a free week of travel to senior Victorians just in time for the 37th Victorian Seniors Festival – our chance to give something back to older Victorians who contribute so much to this state,” Victorian Disability, Ageing and Carers Minister Luke Donnellan said.
Celebrations kicked off on Sunday with Celebration Day at Melbourne’s Federation Square. This year’s theme “Get into it!” encouraged people to take part in the events and activities.
Regional Victoria will not be outdone, with events ranging from several country concerts starring Nikki Nicholas’ Carole King tribute show and Colleen Hewett to guided nature walks and more.
The Seniors Film Festival is on at ACMI and, for those who are feeling adventurous, Bendigo’s Central Deborah gold mine is open for seniors to descend 61 m underground.
