Murray River Tea Rooms, Busy Bean Drive Thru Coffee, Magoo’s Takeaway, Hammond Providore and Three Black Sheep have all been awarded top points.
The ratings have been awarded during the first round of food outlet inspections under the Scores on Doors program, and council’s team expects more top scores to be awarded as the inspections continue this month across Moama.
The NSW Government initiative is aimed at letting residents and diners see how well local food businesses are complying with food hygiene and safety requirements.
The rating system of Excellent (five stars), Very Good (four stars) and Good (three stars), represents various levels of compliance with the Food Standards Code.
Mayor Chris Bilkey said the result of the inspection determined if an award was warranted.
“Our officers inspect businesses and rate their hygiene and food safety standards, taking into account such things as food temperature control, food prepared in advance of service, food handler hygiene, cleaning and pest control,” he said.
“With a brightly coloured green and purple sticker emblazoned on the door of participating businesses, the intention is to boldly proclaim the business's health compliance.”
The program introduction is still in its early stages at council and will continue to be rolled out across Moama and all other towns over the coming months.
