An 8-hectare fire just 3km west of Mulwala which was burning within 300 meters of the back boundary fence of the munitions factory is being monitored by NSW RFS.
Mulwala firefighters from NSW RFS and National Parks, supported by aircraft were on the scene Tuesday morning extinguishing the fire located in the Murray Valley National Park which was believed to be caused by lightning on Monday.
Due to the recent heavy rain and larger volumes of water being released from the Yarrawonga Weir, higher river and lagoons levels have made it inaccessible for fire trucks.
Efforts by the RFS resulted in a helicopter dumping water on the fire. The helicopter returned Tuesday morning to further extinguish the fire. Four wheel drive vehicles were also being used to make a track for better access Tuesday morning.
A statement from RFS Tuesday morning stated the fire is still currently at an Advice level but there are no immediate threats to the community, but residents are urged to stay up to date in case the situation changes.
