Rémi Naudin from France is 20 years old and came to Australia on a working holiday, after completing five years of agricultural study.
“I worked on the family dairy farm from a young age,” he said.
“I found work in welding in Perth for one month and now I want to find picking work near Shepparton.”
After struggling to find work through a job agency, Mr Naudin posted his advertisement on Gumtree.
Margherita Marzorati from Italy is 24 years old and said it was difficult to find work on a holiday visa in Western Australia.
She had recently been working on a farm in Sunbury with her partner Michael, and also posted an advertisement on Gumtree.
“We tried in Victoria which was better, but we still didn't find good conditions,” she said.
The couple met on the train to school and decided to leave their jobs to travel to a country far from their homeland.
“It's different because in Italy, the people don't have as much money, the people here live very well and have more freedom.”
Shepparton based not-for-profit MADEC provides employment services for seasonal workers and harvest officer Brandon Coughlan said there was a plethora of jobs available in Shepparton and surrounds.
“Farmers are looking for workers and visa holders are more likely to go for it; we have quite a large number of people coming through on holiday visas and bridging visas,” he said.
“Shepparton is ideal for anyone finding work, the flux of jobs during harvest season can accommodate a large number of people.”
