Rural training organisation 4 Up Skilling specialises in training people for the poultry, pork and general agricultural industries.
While the company has been running online classes for students for a few years, next month marks the first time face-to-face classes will be offered for students in the Euroa region.
The company’s agricultural training coordinator, Jacinta Clark, said the in-person classes will allow students to have a whole day of learning and hands-on experience.
She said the course is ideal for students undertaking a VCE Vocational Major.
“They’ll get the knowledge and the study they need to go onward in education or straight into a career,” Ms Clark said.
To enrol in the program, students must be at least 15 years old and must be employed part-time by a relevant agricultural enterprise, as well as being a school-based trainee or head start trainee.
“Probably the main difference between us and a TAFE is that all of our students are already employed in the industry in some capacity,” said Ms Clark.
Students who complete the two-year course will exit with a Certificate III in Agriculture.
The face-to-face classes will occur once a month during the school terms, with intensive multi-day courses during the school holidays.
Time is also carved out during the term for students to attend their workplace, where they can apply their acquired skills and knowledge.
Ms Clark said the program represents a good pathway to engage students who do not gravitate towards a traditional classroom setting.
Classes in Euroa begin on Wednesday, March 5.
Students can enrol throughout the year.
