Emily won the Rural Ambassador award at the Numurkah Show, before going on to compete at Berrigan for the Goulburn Valley Riverina Show Association Group finals in April, which she also won.
The Rural Ambassador Award is a national competition for young people with an interest in rural and regional Australia and gives them an opportunity to promote rural communities and industries and the importance of agriculture and food production.
The award also recognises the next generation of leaders who have a strong commitment to agricultural industries and an involvement or a genuine interest in the agricultural show movement at the local, state or national level.
Emily, 21, said she was very excited to compete for the state award.
“I'm super excited to get new experiences, meet heaps of new people and see how I can go with the Goulburn Valley, see if I can bring it home for us,” Emily said.
Emily has a long history of competing in these agricultural events, including winning the Junior Ambassador Award in 2018.
“I won at Numurkah in 2018 for the junior (category) but I never went much further with that,” she said.
“I didn’t win the finals (in 2018), but I’ve been competing since I was little with horses and cattle.”
Through being the recipient of the Rural Ambassador Award, Emily wants to encourage young people to get involved, saying the best place to start is your local agricultural society.
“Definitely approach your local show societies, as they’re more than willing to help you,” she said.
Emily also said any young rural people who were interested should try out.
“I think everyone should give it a go, it’s a great experience.”
