She could no longer travel across the border from NSW to sell her eggs at farmers’ markets, and was left with an abundance of produce.
“In the first instance, I donated the eggs to Foodshare but the chooks don't stop laying so I had to find another avenue,” she said.
“I chatted to a friend who was delivering her own produce down to Melbourne and she said I was welcome to use her services.”
Mrs Redfern decided to create a website for her business to attract a new client base.
“I have previously worked in advertising agencies and I was able to use my marketing skills,” she said.
“We now deliver to Melbourne and Sydney — I started off by spreading the word through friends and family but now it's growing even more.”
The free-range eggs are collected on the Moulamein farm and are processed at a Barham facility.
Mrs Redfern said families cooking and baking at home in lockdown could taste the difference of fresh, free-range eggs.
“The comments have been amazing,” she said.
“I just found one door closing opened others.”
Mrs Redfern recently featured on The Good Stuff podcast — a four-part conversation series for the NSW Government's Small Business Festival in partnership with Murray River Council.
The podcast looks at how businesses have recovered from the coronavirus pandemic.
Murray River Council Mayor Chris Bilkey said the podcast was specifically tailored for the local small business community.
“Our businesses have been heavily impacted by ongoing drought conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic, so we hope this series will at the least help drive business confidence as they hit the road to recovery,” Cr Bilkey said.
