Since the border closure, banks of traffic have caused severe disruptions on Annesley, Heygarth and Sturt Sts, leaving many local residents frustrated.
Sergeant Paul Nicoll of Campaspe Highway Patrol said the most notable delays were between 3 pm and 8 pm on Wednesday and Thursday.
“Some people have told us it took them over two hours to get over the bridge,” he said.
“A lot of those people are returning home from work in Echuca. Our advice to people who work in the Echuca CBD is to think about parking your car in Moama then walking across the bridge.
“Eighty per cent of our staff at the station live in Moama and they have now decided to walk each day.
“A potential idea for businesses would be to complete your work in Moama in the morning before returning to Echuca in the afternoon.
“It will take a community effort to get through this.
“It is important everyone heading towards Moama displays a high degree of patience.”
During the first 48 hours of the border closure, there was some frustration at the roundabout before the bridge with some cars blocking traffic heading away from the checkpoint.
On Thursday afternoon, Echuca police crews were seen helping to direct flow through the area.
