The Australian Plants Society in Echuca is hosting its annual native flower showcase, displaying more than 300 different specimens of Australian native plants and flowers.

Many people, with many gardens, are growing native flowers and plants in and around Echuca and Moama.

To celebrate this, the Australian Plants Society, Echuca, is holding its annual native flower showcase.
“The showcase is an event where we display Australian native plants and flowers that have grown in our gardens, our members’ gardens,” Australian Plants Society Echuca president Sue Robertson said.
“Last year, we had over 300 different specimens.
“There were 300 different flowers of all sorts of different native plants that you can grow in the area.
“Whether it was plants from Western Australia or all over Australia really, that will actually grow in the area will be on display.”
Hopefully, Heather Turner from Rochester will be doing a basket weaving display again this year at the showcase.

“She was here last year and does a magnificent job weaving baskets using native grass,” Mrs Robertson said.
“This year, there will be a hands-on demonstration of a florist building bouquets of native flowers for sale.
“When you have native flowers in the garden, it attracts native bees, which are good pollinators for all different types of plants.
“It is really important to grow our native plants for our wildlife and habitat for things like frogs and lizards.
“We would like people to come along to see what can be grown in the gardens and encourage people to grow native plants.”
This year, the showcase will include a diorama from a member who lives in Melbourne of Western Australian native flowers that he grows in his garden.
Entry to the showcase is $5, including a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit.
Local nurseries will be there selling plants.
Australian Plants Society’s Echuca Moama Native Flower Showcase is at Echuca Masonic Lodge, 426 High St, Echuca, on Saturday, October 5, from 9am to 4pm.
Growing native plants in gardens attracts native bees, which are important pollinators for various plants and wildlife like frogs and lizards. The event aims to encourage people to grow native plants in their gardens to support local wildlife and habitat.
