Acting Mayor Tony Marwood said it was great to see the works beginning now that river levels had sufficiently dropped.
“This is just the first stage of works which includes renewal of the top section dry ramp of the boat ramp pavement, with further works to happen during the winter when the ramp is not used as heavily,” Cr Marwood said.
The second stage of the project is scheduled to start in May 2024 when the river is at its lowest and there is minimal demand to use the ramp.
During the second stage of works, the wet and dry ramp and retaining walls will be renewed, while a new floating dock and an all-abilities concrete path connecting the dock to the car park will be built.
“This will be a fantastic improvement to the boat ramp to make it more accessible and inclusive for our community to use,” Cr Marwood said.
“It’s exciting to see this project get off the ground after being subject to delay due to the 2022 floods and continued high river levels throughout winter this year.”
The ramp is temporarily closed to the public until December 22 while works are under way.
There are alternative boat ramps available at Echuca East, Casey Rd and Headworks Rd (Victoria) or at Five Mile Boat ramp in NSW.
