The dressage club’s president Duncan Terry, who is also a Toolamba CFA volunteer, said the generator was handed over to the station at the CFA’s AGM on Thursday, May 11.
The dressage club, which has been around for about two years in its current form, used funds raised from events and sponsorship to buy the portable 9Kva petrol generator.
Tatura Dressage runs four competitions, as well as couple of “pop-up” events, throughout the year at Tatura Park, an equestrian and events complex near Shepparton.
Mr Terry said the idea to donate a generator came about while helping out with the CFA at Mooroopna and Murchison during the October 2022 floods.
“Murchison CFA had a generator, which meant even when the main power was out (during the floods), they could still act as a bit of a community hub,” Mr Terry said.
Toolamba CFA would now have the capacity during similar sorts of events to use the generator to power up the station to run lights, offer people phone charging and act as a bit of a rallying point, he said.
During the floods the dressage club also worked with Greater Shepparton City Council to make the Tatura Park site available to the flood-affected equestrian community so they could ride and exercise their horses safely.
