If so, you would find being a youth exchange student a most rewarding experience.
“It was an incredible experience,” commented past exchange student Gabby Murray who spent six weeks in France, in St Herblain, Nantes at the end of 2019.
“I was so young and it was the first Christmas/New Year away from my family.
“The host family was amazing, so generous and fortunately they spoke some English.”
Gabby settled in very well and adjusted to some change in school hours. She strongly recommends the student exchange program.
“My time was absolutely incredible. I’d recommend the program – without a second thought,” she said.
The next program exchange will be from January 2024. The number of exchanges from Yarrawonga Mulwala depend on student interest and host families, throughout the region.
“We’d be looking at January 2024, one for three months and one for 12 months, at this stage, with Europe and Asia being of great interest,” The Rotary Club of Yarrawonga Mulwala President Cate Febey said.
Since 1968, 16 female and five male exchange students from Yarrawonga have stayed in various countries and a total of 25 students have been hosted Yarrawonga-based. “All students have made most favourable remarks about their stays, by both inbound and outbound students,” Ms Febey said.
Yarrawonga College P-12 teacher and youth director Belinda Pendergast wants the community to know of such “a fantastic program”.
“I’d like to see some students head overseas and enjoy an amazing time,” Ms Pendergast said.
“My son Ned went to Germany in 2019 for six weeks and loved it.” Ms Febey’s daughter Dannielle’s trip to America beforehand was also very much appreciated.
An Information Session will be held next Wednesday, February 1 from 6.00pm to 7.00pm in the Rotary Pavilion, Yarrawonga Showgrounds.
