As the owner-builder of The Storyteller, a cocktail bar on Cressy St, I’m proud to call Deniliquin home.
I’ve lived and worked around the world, and studied history, political philosophy, teaching, group facilitation, and global innovation.
I’ve worked in a variety of sectors and levels, including consulting to government, and spent years volunteering in drug harm reduction.
When I returned to our region, I wanted to honour and channel the creative and enterprising spirits of my roots.
My grandfathers - Stan and Ken - were a rocket scientist and agricultural entrepreneur, respectively.
My mother, a talented architect, passed away too soon from early-onset Alzheimer’s, but her appreciation of considered design lives on in me.
My father, David ‘Shovel’ Schoeffel, wrote Deniliquin’s anthem and is active in our town’s myriad clubs.
In considering the meaning of prosperity, I reflect on this legacy: Working with advanced technology while being grounded in material needs, and to design around people as humans not numbers; we all have aspirations, and a desire for beautiful experiences.
As a councillor, I will push for higher-density housing as a cornerstone of growth, reduce red tape, and champion public-private partnerships to unlock our region’s potential.
I believe in a compassionate, health and science-based approach to social issues.
I want this council to lead with thinking that is both critical and imaginative, where we ask ourselves about what a great vision of our future looks like, and where we unite to realise that vision.
