The announcement was made at the launch event on June 11, where an increase of prizemoney to $8million was also revealed.
Edward River Council Mayor Norm Brennan said being part of the tour would be an unforgettable experience for the people of Deniliquin.
‘‘Our tight-knit community boasts a strong racing background and, given the rural location of our town, annual race meets are an integral part of our community’s social calendar,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘We look forward to welcoming and celebrating the arrival of the Lexus Melbourne Cup when it visits in July.’’
Cobram resident Rodney Kruz, who submitted the application to host the cup on behalf of his town, revealed the cup visit would coincide with the Cobram Show.
‘‘We’re extremely excited to have the Melbourne Cup tour visit the Cobram and Barooga community, and attend the Cobram Agricultural Show,’’ Mr Kruz said.
‘‘This year has been a very difficult year for our community and our farmers in particular.
‘‘The visit will provide a much-needed boost to the local community, with the opportunity to get together and celebrate the iconic trophy.’’
The Melbourne Cup tour will travel to: Deniliquin on July 12; Wakool on July 13; Koondrook on July 14; Euroa on October 10; Tallarook on October 23; and Cobram on October 26.
