The majority of these are purebred, although there are still a few of the original crossbred cows and these cows produce excellent vealer calves.
Doben Park is a firm believer in first-cross calves to produce excellent vealer calves.
This is where the Shorthorn bull excels in crossbreeding programs as it is ideal to cross over British or Euro females where the steer and cull heifers can be sold as milk vealers and the better heifers can be retained to be joined back to the terminal sire or a Shorthorn bull.
This will be the third year the stud has participated in Beef Week and there will be a selection of bulls and females on show.
This includes roan and white bulls, aged 17 to 23 months. These bulls are by Yamburgan Monkira and Glengyron Master.
There will also be some Shorthorn-Speckle Park cross heifers. These heifers are by a Fish Creek Farm Speckle Park bull.
Doben Park Shorthorns is in Buln Buln East, West Gippsland, on 78ha across three properties.
While inspecting the stud’s cattle, check out the Numat anti-slip matting installed in the cattle handling area.
