During the February Greater Shepparton City Council meeting, a CCTV camera network review was requested.
Cr Fern Summer put forward a notice of motion, asking that council:
- Produce a report that reviews the effectiveness of the current Greater Shepparton CCTV camera network and includes costings and feasibility of implementing a second stage of the program.
- Review relevant Safer City Camera Network memorandums of understanding within three months, with a view to continuing these partnerships.
- Conduct public consultation across all of Greater Shepparton as part of the review process.
“The community have raised concerns about crime levels in our region and council are very limited in crime prevention measures but what we can do is provide safe infrastructure, like street lights, that may deter crime and review our CCTV network,” Cr Summer said.
“This project was meant to be reviewed in 2017 so I’m bringing that process forward today.”
The review will go ahead with full support from all nine councillors.
