The facility officially opened on Monday, November 27 and people in Cobram are now able to access the scheme and exchange their eligible aluminium, glass and plastic containers for a 10-cent refund.
FOOTT director Jenny Foott said the response from the Cobram community had been outstanding.
“It has been fantastic, beyond our expectations,” she said.
“This is a fabulous opportunity for the community to engage with recycling.”
The new service also features Australian-made Smart Counter machines, a new feature at the Cobram centre.
“There are two machines on-site at Cobram, and staff are on hand to assist,” Ms Foott said.
“The system is easy and efficient to use, and it does not take too long to process the eligible containers.”
Community members have been heading to the centre throughout the week to get their money back.
“We’ve heard of people going for walks and taking a bag with them to collect cans along the rivers,” Ms Foott said.
Ms Foott also said residents could download the CDS Vic North app and deposit the money straight into their bank account or donate it to community groups and organisations.
“The money stays within the community,” she said.
“The Cobram community can benefit from the financial and environmental rewards.”
FOOTT operates four CDS centres, including Cobram, Benalla, Shepparton and Yarrawonga.
The Cobram service is located at 5 Colgan St and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 8am to 4pm.
