Since 2022, Mr Cornish has been a supporter of Variety, driving his “Where’s Wally Car” in the Variety Bash each year.
Young Citizen of the Year Pippa Skala has received countless academic awards since 2022 when, in Year 6, she received the certificate of academic excellence.
In sports, Miss Skala received the coaches award from Broadford Cricket Club in 2022, was the runner-up in the best-and-fairest award for the Broadford Junior Netball Club and won the best-and-fairest title in 2024.
She is also a member of the 1st Broadford Scouting Group, where she has progressed to the position of unit leader, as well as the Broadford Junior Fire Brigade, where she has been elected junior lieutenant.
Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall said the Mitchell Shire Community Awards honoured the remarkable diversity of individuals who selflessly served the community.
“These extraordinary people hail from various backgrounds, often working tirelessly behind the scenes to uplift and improve the lives of their fellow community members,” Cr Dougall said.
“Today is dedicated to recognising the profound impact they have and appreciating how different our community would be without their dedication.
“In addition to celebrating community champions, the day is also a chance to celebrate the achievements of our newest citizens, who have embarked on a long journey to reach this milestone.
“It is a privilege to share in their success.”
