Officers met with community members at Deniliquin cafe Frank n Beans for 90 minutes.
The ‘Coffee with a Cop’ program aims to foster connections between police and the community.
Recognising that most people only interact with police during an emergency or time of distress, it creates a safe space for conversations to happen.
Locals have felt so strongly about community safety concerns after an apparent increase in property crimes over the last six months or more, efforts are being made to form an official neighbourhood watch.
Its instigator Diego Sztejman was one of the participants on Tuesday, on hand to chat with local police about the community’s current situation.
With 10 officers in attendance for Coffee with a Cop, but community participation low in comparison to the number expressing concern about crime, it did allow for plenty of one-on-one conversations.
“We had a lot of conversation and coffee with community members,” Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said.
“We thank everyone who attended for the opportunity to chat with them and thank the team at Frank N Beans for hosting our event.”
Another ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event was hosted at Mathoura yesterday.
