The event fits into the 54 reasons Play 2 Learn program, which educates children aged 0 to 5 through activities and fun.
54 reasons is the Australian branch of Save the Children, dedicated to the rights of children, providing education and support services to young people and their guardians.
“We’re the leading child rights organisation in Australia,” 54 reasons Shepparton regional manager Terri-Leigh Bentancourt said.
“Our primary focus is always to listen to and champion the voice of children.”
From 10am to noon, families will be able to connect with each other and with resources, including local groups and services.
Attendees include Noah’s Ark; ERH and Smiles 4 Miles; Campaspe Shire Council; the CFA; Victoria Police; CVGT; Ambulance Victoria, which will be running Call, Push, Shock sessions as part of its Shocktober initiative; and Coliban Water, also marking National Water Week.
The 54 reasons team has brought these organisations to one place to support families and alleviate cost-of-living pressures.
“Everyone is stretched at the moment,” Mrs Bentancourt said.
“People want to go out and speak to people and reach out to services ... they’re just too busy or sometimes don’t know where to find it.
“The idea of this is ... we bring everyone together as an opportunity to reach out, seek support, ask for some advice.”
54 reasons will run face painting, games, giveaways and different activities with a focus on sustainability for younger guests to enjoy. Many of these ideas can also be easily replicated at home.
“They’re simple and not overly expensive,” Mrs Bentancourt said.
“Things like necklace making, water play, baby bathing, play dough made from scratch, all of those great things.”
Every year for Children’s Week, 54 reasons marks the occasion in different ways, putting in months of planning for its extra special 2024 celebration.
Mrs Bentancourt wants the event to serve as a thank you to those who engage with 54 reasons, as well as the wider community.
“This is really an opportunity to celebrate the children and families that have been supporting us and supporting the program all year round,” she said.
“We’ll have gift bags for the children to take away and lots of fun things happening, it’s like a mini show.
“Children’s Week is an amazing opportunity to celebrate children and recognise that they are our future.
“We need to keep a clean and safe planet so that they can grow and thrive.”
The event is open to all, and will be at Echuca’s Apex Park at 213 Leichardt St from 10am to noon.
Similar events will also be held in Kyabram, Mooroopna, Katunga, Cobram and Numurkah.
