Beginning Saturday, September 28, the Allan St café will open from 8.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday and Sundays to keep hungry locals and visitors fed and caffeinated.
The café will become one of just a few coffee venues in Kyabram that serve customers on a Sunday, a hole in Kyabram’s hospitality sector that owner Jess Scoble identified.
“We have a lot of people asking (they) wish there was more things open on a Sunday — there’s nothing much around,” Jess said.
She trialled weekend hours during the past year and found success with Saturday and Sunday espressos, so Jess decided to bring it back.
With summer, the peak tourist time for Kyabram, just around the corner, she wanted to ensure visitors could spend time and money in town — and the only way to make sure that happened was for businesses to be open.
“Not everyone wants to travel to Tatura or Shepparton when they visit or their families visit, and they can’t go out for a nice coffee,” Jess said.
“So, we’ve taken that feedback on from our customers saying how great that would be.”
The weekend service, however, will stay seasonal.
When footy season kicks off, Jess will return to supporting from the sidelines on the weekends rather than serving behind the coffee machine.
“We can’t do weekends in winter because we have boys that are all football mad ... and family comes first,” she said.
With the footy season finished, Jess said she could dedicate more time to the café, with her family sometimes helping out.
