Wendy Buck becomes the sixth eastern shire-based councillor alongside Peter Lawless, Julie Brooks, Peter Mansfield, Judy Heather and Peter Elliott while Ed Cox, Wayne Limbrick and Scott Olson are based in the west of the shire on the nine seated council.
Ms Buck told the Yarrawonga Chronicle on Monday morning that she would accept the position.
“I have always felt that it is an honour to represent your community and particularly the Moira Shire so I will definitely be accepting,” Ms Buck said.
“I hope I can make a difference. From already having experience on council and my background in being a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors with my expertise in Governance, I think I can be a good contribution to council.
“I’m disappointed that council have had to have a monitor appointed since my last stint on council but I can only hope I can make a difference.
“You can only do your best and I’ll give it a red hot go.”
The two resignations of Moira Shire Councillors John Beitzel from Numurkah and mayor at the time Libro Mustica from Cobram has meant two unsuccessful candidates from the 2020 election were elected after countbacks.
Tuesday’s countback was the fifth countback by the VEC of the 2020 Moira Shire Council election votes. Councillor Ed Cox filled an extraordinary vacancy in January 2021 following the tragic death of Councillor Andrew Goldman from a helicopter crash on December 2, 2020.
Yarrawonga’s Judy Heather then filled the extraordinary vacancy of Kevin Bourke before John Beitzel filled the seat of Marie Martin in late January 2021.
Koonoomoo’s Scott Olson was selected to fill the extraordinary vacancy of Libro Mustica last Tuesday.
