Break out the popcorn

It is tricky not to go down the rabbit hole of every rom-com in existence when considering movies to watch with mum on her special day, however we persist — only three of six will fall under this category.

Love Actually

It’s not Christmas, but does it need to be? This film speaks for itself — it’s a classic in the way that it contains all the qualities of a decent movie: comedy, love, heartbreak and Hugh Grant.

The First Wives Club

Revenge and a musical number all accentuated by a stunning array of 1980s attire — this one never gets old. Fronted by screen queens Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton, mum is sure to be impressed with your immaculate choice.

The Other Woman

If you’re wanting to wind down with popcorn and Maltesers for a laugh and a cosy night, this is a winner for everyone. Three different women find themselves dating, or being married to, the same man. The rest is comedic history.

Erin Brockovich

If your mum doesn’t love Julia Roberts, is she really your mum? Based on the true story, Erin Brockovich was a mother making ends meet while taking on the huge lawsuit of an energy company contaminating drinking water.

Dirty Dancing

You’re kidding if you think this wouldn’t land on the list. Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, dancing? Mother’s Day made great. Give mum a chance to reminisce on her youth, hopefully with less deviancy than the aforementioned.

I Care a Lot

This is a ripper of a film guaranteed to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. A court-appointed legal guardian makes a living out of defrauding her clients, but there is much more to the story. 11/10, worth a watch.
