The Loddon River from Kerang to the Little Murray River, the No.7 and 1/7 Channel between Reedy Lake and Racecourse Lake, the Box-Pyramid Creek Channel system, including the No.6 channel, and the Macorna Main (No.2) channel system also have blue-green algae warnings in place.
Goulburn-Murray Water is reminding the public to avoid direct contact with the water and closely supervise dogs and children when outdoors at these two locations.
G-MW's water quality manager Greg Smith is reminding people not to swim in channels due to hidden dangers and high levels of blue-green algae which contain toxins that are harmful to humans and animals.
Blue-green algae can be present in water at high levels without causing any obvious colour change. It contains toxins which cause skin rashes, itchiness and soreness, and if swallowed can cause nausea and vomiting.
An alternative water supply for stock and pets should be sought where possible and those who come into contact with affected water should wash affected skin immediately in clean cold water.
It is not possible to predict how long the algae will remain at high levels.
