Benalla now has a purpose-built, fenced, dog park at Churchill Reserve.
Benalla Rural City Council announced the park’s opening this week, following months of community consultations and the subsequent construction work.
To celebrate, a free community barbecue will be held on Thursday, October 26 from 4pm to 6pm to officially open the new facility.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said it was great to see the gates to this much-anticipated community asset opened.
“The Churchill Reserve Dog Park is an example of how we can work with users for a great outcome,” Cr Hearn said.
“We listened to our community and worked together to deliver a project that will be loved for years to come.
“We are thrilled about the positive impact this facility will have on dog owners and their pets.“
The park features:
- Perimeter fencing
- Two airlock-style gates for safe entry and exit
- Three bench seats (donated by the Lions Club of Benalla and Benalla Men’s Shed)
- A water station with a dog water bowl underneath and
- Two tunnel and mound constructions aimed at enhancing the dogs’ sensory experience.
