Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy warns residents across the Ovens Valley to be vigilant when it comes to providing personal information and bank account details through online platforms.
“In the growing digital age where everything is accessed through the click of a button, it’s even more important to be very wary when online,” Mr McCurdy said.
“Day in and day out I hear endless stories about residents receiving phone calls from suspicious numbers offering new services, receiving links to install new software updates, or opening an email or message from an unknown source - the list is endless.
“For those who are a little hesitant on social media, I urge you to check your settings on your accounts and be very cautious when providing payments for money requests online.
“It happens to the best of us - I encourage all residents; young and old to always check with your family members or friends if you see something or receive something you’re not sure about.”
