Member for Euroa and Victorian Parliamentary National Party deputy leader Steph Ryan is adjusting to life with her new baby.

Ms Ryan and her husband Simon Huggins welcomed their daughter Sunday Ella, weighing 3.2 kg, on July 24.

For the past three weeks, Ms Ryan has been working from home and getting accustomed to a new routine revolving around feeding and nappy changes.

“It’s a juggle but I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” Ms Ryan told Country News.

“It has absolutely changed me. I now understand what people mean when they say having children is to have your heart on the outside of your body. It’s the greatest job in the world.''

Ms Ryan is finding parliament a challenge with a newborn as she will have to be away from home and it is not possible to get a childcare place on a fortnightly basis.

“It’s given me a newfound appreciation for the difficulties faced by parents who struggle to get childcare because they do shift work.”

Ms Ryan was elected to parliament in 2014 and is the National Party spokesperson on water. The portfolio is being temporarily handled by party leader Peter Walsh.
