Shane Maurer, from Milvale, NSW, sold the top dog, Eveready Possum, to Wilcannia’s Dwayne Evans, beating the previous record of $22200 set in 2018 at the Casterton Kelpie Association’s working dog auction.
Of the 52 dogs up for auction, 46 sold for an average price of $5979, up $1639 on the 2018 edition.
Six of those sold reached $10000 or more with the second-top-priced dog selling for $17820.
Mr Maurer said he was not expecting Eveready Possum to reach the record price, something he did at last year’s Jerilderie’s auction with Coopendale Charlie, which sold for $14000.
‘‘I knew the buyer and three or four others were keen on the dog,’’ Mr Maurer said.
‘‘Going in I knew the buyer would bid on the dog, but you never know if the others will. I thought she might have made around $15000, so to go as far as she did is just amazing.
‘‘One bloke pulled out at about $18000 and a second bloke pulled out at $20000.
‘‘You dream of breaking the record at least once, but doing it twice is a whole different ball game.’’
Adam James sold Kingsley Chevy for $12500 to Finley’s Will and Jack Sexton.
Elders Jerilderie ran the sale.
