Farmer and small business owner Carly Noble will be running for the Senate on a platform of cost-of-living action, minimising climate change’s effects and advocating for the domestic food supply chain.
Mrs Noble said she was excited to be endorsed by a party she shared similar values with.
“I stand firm on valuing evidence-based science and problem solving, as well as fairness, transparency and accountability,” she said.
“These are the values of the Australian Democrats, and I am standing for the Senate to make a difference and create positive change.”
Living and farming in Arnold, Mrs Noble said she understood the issues faced by the agriculture sector.
She said there were many challenges facing rural Australia, including the effects of climate change, which are making seasonal conditions more volatile.
“I am a long-time advocate for policies that minimise the effects of climate change on farmers and am a proud supporter of Farmers for Climate Action,” Mrs Noble said.
The party has also endorsed Heath McKenzie, a business development manager for a major producer of vegetable seedlings, whom Mrs Noble will contest the election with.
The federal election, which is yet to be called, must be held by May 17 this year.
