A Kyabram woman woke to find a would-be thief attempting to steal her car, only to watch as he crashed into her house and fled the scene on foot.
But while the woman didn’t lose her car, thieves had already made off with her trail bike.
Leading Senior Constable Corey Wild said a 40-year-old woman woke in her Unitt St home at 3:10am on Tuesday, June 18 to noises in her garage.
The woman looked out of her front-facing window and saw her Toyota RAV4 being reversed out of the garage, Leading Sen Constable Wild said.
The woman saw the car reverse into the side of her house before a man left the vehicle and ran off.
Leading Sen Constable Wild said police attended the scene and searched the garage where the woman found that her yellow Suzuki 400 trail bike had been stolen.
It is not known whether the trail bike was stolen by a different suspect, Leading Sen Constable Wild said.
The theft is under investigation by Kyabram police, and no arrests have yet been made.
Leading Sen Constable Wild said this should be a reminder to residents to keep their vehicle and garage locked, and to keep personal belongings in a safe place.
He also emphasised the importance of calling 000 when an incident such as this took place.
