Contractors were unable to work on the site for a number of weeks following the October flood event, but have enjoyed perfect conditions in the past month as they play “catch-up’’ on the project.
The framework of the building has been erected, with electrical, plumbing and other interior fittings expected to follow in the next two weeks.
The waterlogged foundations of the building have been sufficiently compacted to ensure a solid base of the new facility and the project is now due to be completed in early June.
Retired Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp announced Bowden Corporation had been appointed to construct the new multi-million-dollar ambulance station in June last year.
The new Rochester Ambulance Station will feature a three-bay garage for ambulances, two rest and recline areas for the hard-working paramedics to recuperate, a fully equipped kitchen and improved security and car parking to make sure paramedics are safe.
The project involved knocking down the outdated station and replacing it with a new, fit for purpose station.
The new ambulance station is one of 15 stations under construction or about to be built across the state thanks to the Victorian Government.
A mirror image of the Rochester station is nearing completion at Inglewood, on the outskirts of Bendigo.
