The Australian Alpaca Association will bring the Australian Alpaca National Show to the Bendigo Showgrounds from August 16 to 18.
There will be more than 600 entries, from craft items through to parading animals, including 300 Suri and Huacaya alpacas to be judged by Barbara Hetherington from the United Kingdom and Australia’s Natasha Clark, Jillian Elwers and Jude Anderson.
“The calibre of judges we have this year is a testament to the growth of our sector,” Australian Alpaca National Show convenor Jonathon Provis-Vincent said.
“We have found each year to be larger than the last and anticipate this will continue over the years,” he said.
“We can't wait to welcome everyone to this year's show and celebrate together.”
Visitors will see nearly 200 alpaca fleeces, displaying the finest quality that breeders across Australia have to offer, as well as captivating art, photography, youth and craft sections, with exhibits from Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.
The Australian Alpaca National Show is free and open to the public with opportunities to purchase alpaca goodies, wander through the trade show to learn about the growing industry and agritourism, and watch the alpacas parade and the judging process.
Australia has one of the largest registered breeding herds in the world with more than 180,000 alpacas and is a world leader in quality fleece production.
