Greater Shepparton City Council is restricting access to Shepparton Regional Saleyards for non-essential personnel, including spectators and transport operators, from Friday until further notice.
Council has taken the action in response to the coronavirus threat.
All attendees will need to sign a register prior to a sale of any kind, and staff will be available if assistance is needed.
“We are working closely with the Stock Agents Association to keep the saleyards open as long as possible as it is an important service supporting our community,” Greater Shepparton City Council director of infrastructure Phil Hoare said.
“Council places the highest priority on the health and wellbeing of the community and its staff at all times, and despite some closures, important services will continue to be provided, particularly for the most vulnerable members of our community.
“If you need to attend the saleyards please practice social distancing and good hygiene.”
