Shepparton Airport recorded 522 mm for the year, way above its 437 mm yearly average. The 2020 rainfall tally smashed the 2019 figure of 230.8 mm.
It was the wettest year on record since 2016 when 640.6 mm of rain fell, ending what had effectively been a dry spell.
The following is what the BOM recorded for 2020 from weather stations across the Goulburn Valley:
● Mooroopna — 554.4 mm, yearly average 491.6 mm.
● Tatura — 546.8 mm, yearly average 477.4 mm.
● Murchison — 550.2 mm, yearly average 534.3 mm.
● Rushworth — 634.1 mm, yearly average 520.3 mm.
● Nagambie — 569.4 mm, yearly average 538.7 mm.
● Echuca — 447.3 mm, yearly average 421.6 mm.
● Benalla — 669.3 mm, yearly average 587.1 mm.
● Cobram — 577.3 mm, yearly average 465.7 mm.
Dry December
After November saw 16 mm fall for the month in Shepparton, December was also dry as the Shepparton Airport station recorded 19.6 mm — well short of the 32.5 mm monthly average.
Tatura recorded 19 mm of rain for the month, while Mooroopna had 18.6 mm in December.
Shower starts 2021
Despite the dry December, it took just a matter of hours for the heavens to open up in 2021.
Tatura is off to the best start with 16.6 mm falling already. Mooroopna has experienced 11 mm, while Shepparton Airport recorded 8 mm.
All three stations have monthly averages of 28 mm or more.
