They include Aimee Bolton, formerly from Shepparton, who has spent her own time parading beef cattle in the Melbourne Royal Show arena, and who has been invited back to be one of the judges, starting on Friday, September 30.
This year’s cattle show — which starts on Thursday, September 29 — has attracted about 440 stud cattle.
The interbreed judging will be on Saturday evening, October 1.
A former Shepparton resident, Ms Bolton was awarded an RASV youth travel scholarship in 2018 and graduated from Charles Sturt University with a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management.
She has spent the past three years in Queensland working as a supply chain co-ordinator and livestock buyer in the beef industry and has recently moved south to start a new role.
She has judged at the Melbourne Royal Show several times before the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the event.
“I grew up around cattle, and I’ve been judging since I was 15 or 16, so it’s not too daunting,” Ms Bolton said.
“I am very passionate about the livestock industry and enjoy being involved in the stud side of things right through to the commercial processing end of the industry.”
Peter Collins, from Merridale Angus Stud in Tennyson, will judge Limousin and Shorthorns, having had success in the ring at royal shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, gaining interbreed champions at all three.
Speckle Park breeder Jack Nelson from Shepparton will judge Red Poll, Square Meaters and Maine-Anjou breeds.
The Kubota Australia Livestock Pavilion is now home to Shorthorns (celebrating 200 years of the Coates herd book containing the pedigrees of improved bulls), Red Polls, Limousins, Blonde d’Aquitaines, Belted Galloways, Charolais (celebrating 50 years at the Melbourne Royal Show), Herefords and Fleckviehs, who will all be judged on Thursday, September 29.
On Friday, September 30, exhibits in this year’s feature breed, Australian Lowlines, will be judged alongside Speckle Parks, Red Angus, Santa Gertrudis, Maine-Anjou and other small breeds.
Saturday, October 1 is all about the Murray Greys, Angus and Simmental cattle ahead of the all breeds sale and Hall of Fame induction.
The Melbourne Royal Show will run until Sunday, October 2.
